River Care

Where St Catherine’s Brook meets the Avon

The aim of the group is to work towards creating a cleaner, healthier, biodiverse river environment and catchment area in St Catherine’s Valley and the Avon at Batheaston for the benefit of our community and others including future generations.

We do this by:

Regularly monitoring the biodiversity and health of the flora and fauna along the water courses, identifying and removing unwanted items and litter and invasive species.

Regularly testing water quality and reporting findings to appropriate agencies and organisations.

Engaging with individuals and stakeholders to promote practices that improve the riparian environment and increase biodiversity and reduce pollution and the impact of flooding, such as by planting trees along water courses.

Holding activities and events that educate and inform young people and others about their local streams and river.

Creating a safer, better environment for those that use the local river and water courses for activities such as swimming and water sports.

Working constructively with organisations such as BART (Bristol and Avon Rivers Trust) and We Are Avon that share our aims and to reach out to others and ‘spread the word’.
