Tree trails celebrate trees. They offer an opportunity to get some exercise while learning how to identify some trees, what their flowers and fruit look like and what wildlife they support.
We have designed two trails so far, and have plans for more. Look out for free trail leaflets on our nature notice boards and in local outlets.
This is a 2km walk along narrow pavements and through the grounds of St John the Baptist Church. There are steps and sloping grassed surfaces. Limited on street parking is available in Northend. The free Batheaston Riverside car park is 5-10 minutes away by foot. It is a contemplative walk, near many evergreens. Evergreens were commonly planted in churchyards to carry overtones of eternal life.

Northend Walk
This informal walk, over trail paths and some uneven permissive routes, is 3 to 4 km and includes several accessible gates but no steps. The ground may be especially muddy in some areas during certain seasons and at times there may be livestock in some areas. It is designed to start and finish in Batheaston Public Car Park but it can be accessed from various points along the route if preferred.

If you want to find out more about the trees, visit The Woodland Trust, or Forestry England.
There are many more interesting trails nearby. You can find several on the Bath Urban Treescape website including two versions of one in Alice Park - Alice’s Arboretum and Alice’s Arboretum Family Friendly.
