Tree trails celebrate trees. They offer an opportunity to get some exercise while learning how to identify some trees, what their flowers and fruit look like and what wildlife they support.
We have designed two trails so far, and have plans for more. Look out for free trail leaflets on our nature notice boards and in local outlets.
Northend Walk
This is a 2km walk along narrow pavements and through the grounds of St John the Baptist Church. There are steps and sloping grassed surfaces. Limited on street parking is available in Northend, The free Batheaston Riverside car park is 5-10 minutes away by foot. It is a contemplative walk, near many evergreens. Evergreens were commonly planted in churchyards to carry overtones of eternal life.

Riverside Tree Trail
This trail is a circular walk between Batheaston riverside car park and the toll bridge. It is about 2km long and includes a kissing gate and (avoidable) cattle grid but no steps.
It is a gentle walk that closely follows the river and passes near willows and alders, both water loving trees.

If you want to find out more about the trees, visit The Woodland Trust, or Forestry England.
There are many more interesting trails nearby. You can find several on the Bath Urban Treescape website including two versions of one in Alice Park - Alice’s Arboretum and Alice’s Arboretum Family Friendly.
