Northend Walk
This is a 2km walk along narrow pavements and through the grounds of St John the Baptist Church. It includes steps and sloping grassed surfaces between old gravestones. Limited on street parking is available in Northend but the free Batheaston Riverside car park is located 5-10 minutes away by foot. It is a contemplative walk, passing many evergreens: yews, Black Pine, Lawson Cypress and Western Red Cedar. Evergreens were commonly planted in churchyards to carry overtones of eternal life.
Riverside Tree Trail
This trail is a circular walk between Batheaston riverside car park and the toll bridge. It is about 2km long and includes a kissing gate and (avoidable) cattle grid but no steps.
It is a gentle walk that closely follows the river and highlights willows and alders, both water loving trees.
If you want to find out more about the trees, visit The Woodland Trust, or Forestry England.
There are many more interesting trails nearby. You can find several on the Bath Urban Treescape website including two versions of one in Alice Park - Alice’s Arboretum and Alice’s Arboretum Family Friendly.
